DESCRIPTION
The Sports Massage Course is gaining popularity very quickly since many
amateur and professional athletes are using sports massage to help them
recover from injuries or intensive training faster. However, sports massage
can help non-athletes benefit alike since it relieves pain, reduce muscle
tension and fatigue.
Our course leads students to a Local and an International qualification to
gain employment in the Sports Industry as Sports Massage Therapists.
The Diploma Certificate is approved by the specialist awarding bodies
iTEC and VTCT.

PRE-REQUISITES VTCT (iTEC) Level 3 Diploma in Holistic Massage
ATTENDANCE Three hours split into one and/or two days a week
STUDY UNIT TYPE Theory (Online), Practice (School Premises)

Deposit of €500 and 5 monthly installments of €250

LEARNING OUTCOMES
 Consultation methods; obtaining informed consent prior to
assessments and application of the massage where necessary;
Carrying out accurate Client Assessments including Body
Alignment/Posture, Range of Movement/Joint function, Muscle
definition; Active, Passive and Resistive Movement, Palpation;
Informing the client of the possible Contraindications to massage
before commencing any treatments, Referral procedures.
 Adapting a massage routine to meet the specific needs of the client.
 Developing knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology for Sports
Massage including the Origin, Insertion and Action of Muscles.
 Learning the principles of Injury Prevention and Management; The
types of Sports Injuries such as Runner’s Knee (ITB Syndrome), Frozen
Shoulder, Muscle Strain, Tennis Elbow, Golfer’s Elbow and more.
 Preparation of a safe and hygienic working environment.
 Performing Pre-event and Post-event Massage Techniques, Classical
Massage Techniques and Sports Specific Massage Techniques
including Manual Lymphatic Drainage, Neuromuscular Technique,
Muscle Energy Technique, Soft Tissue Release, Connective Tissue
Massage, Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation.
 Application of Cryotherapy and Thermotherapy.
 Selecting massage mediums, evaluating the effectiveness of the
treatment and giving Aftercare advice.
 Developing knowledge about Client care and Communication;
Health, safety and hygiene; Relevant Legislation and Professional
standards.
